A Free Keyword Tool You Might be Overlooking

April 28, 2014

The key to having a successful SEO campaign begins with the proper keyword analysis and we believe the free keyword tool from Bing will certainly make a difference.  To set a foundation for acquiring new leads, your small business should establish a healthy list of keywords.

Many customers we talk with have a select few highly competitive keywords in mind but don’t consider all of the possibilities that potential customers are typing (or speaking) into the search engines.  It’s extremely important to develop a long list of keywords that can be used in your content marketing plan.

You should consider brainstorming with your business associates or an SEO consultant on which keywords would give you the best chance of generating more traffic and leads. Once you do so, it’s time to take a look at the free keyword tool on Bing Webmaster Tools.

It’s no secret that Google has the highest search engine market share and we’ve written about the free keyword planner tool Google offers on their Google Ads platform.  Looking back, however, I don’t believe we’ve given attention to the awesome free keyword tool that Bing launched in 2012.

To access the tool, all you need is a Microsoft account (ex. hotmail, outlook.com, etc).  Once you have logged into the platform, you should see something like this:

Bing keyword tool - PersistSEO, LLCYou should be able to enter a handful of keywords and start searching.  Once you do so, you’ll notice a long list of suggested keywords, along with the search volume over the last 30 days, 3 months, or 6 months.  You can get an idea of what keywords are performing the best in search results and apply those keywords to your SEO campaign.  Bing also provides whether a certain keyword is trending up or down.

In summary, Bing can be a great keyword tool to use for your small business services.  Once you’ve narrowed your list to your primary keywords, you’ll want to map a focus keyword to each page of your site (or blog post).  If you need assistance applying your focus keyword to the title tag, meta description, and content of your page, let us know.
