We’ve had another successful year at PersistSEO by helping our locally and nationally focused small business clients reach their digital marketing objectives. The Google Search algorithm continues to change but through our ethical online marketing tactics, we’ve realized continued improvement for our search terms and those of our clients. In this sea of change at Google, our firm has continued to hold dear to the concept that content is king and that link building should be natural, quality-based, as opposed to quantity of links. Moving into 2018, here’s what we’ll continue to focus on for ourselves and our awesome customer base.
SEO Web Design with Long-Tail Keywords
Having a new website for your small business is the first step in helping to generate more business. But, you shouldn’t stop there. Be certain that your web designer understands the basics of SEO and how to position your site to rank well on Google and Bing. WordPress is our content management system of choice and we build all of our new sites on this platform, which has proven to be extremely SEO friendly. In 2018, we plan to push for page build-outs on primary keywords (ex. electrician) and create blog posts emphasizing long-tail keywords (ex. can faulty wiring increase my electric bill). We’ll spend more time researching long phrase keywords and work to incorporate each one into the editorial calendar for the month.
By focusing on several low to medium competition long-tail keywords in blog articles, we are more likely to achieve immediate results. Since long-tail keywords have less search volume, it’s typically easier to rank well, as opposed to ranking primary keywords with high competition.
Here are a few other digital marketing tips to follow as it pertains to your website:
- Make sure your phone number is in a prominent place on the website and that you have a “click to call” feature for mobile users
- Give your prospects an opportunity to sign up for your blog or e-newsletter through a web form.
- Be sure to have a lead generation form in more places than just your contact page.
- Keep an eye on traffic with Google Analytics.
- Submit your sitemap through Google Search Console.
- Mobile Friendly, responsive design with HTML5.
- Schema Markup
Get Active on Google My Business
Have you uploaded recent images to your Google My Business profile? Are you and your team active on Google Posts? More activity on Google My Business in 2018 will rule the day. Here are a few things we’d recommend that you do immediately:
- Get a Google My Business listing for your business.
- Ask your clients for reviews.
- Post blogs, curated content, infographics, and other compelling content to your Google Plus business page to establish more authority and links.
- Work to get quality backlinks by producing awesome content on your website.
Optimize Your Site for Local Search
With our network of trusted directory sites, we’re able to add or update our client’s business listings on 70 of the major directory sites like Yelp, Superpages, Google My Business, Bing Local, and more, within 48 hours. By having a consistent NAP (Business Name, Address, and Phone Number) on all of the trusted directory sites, your local listing on Google will improve and you’ll establish more authority with Google for your domain. If you choose not to partner with an SEO firm to update your listings, you can update your business listings manually but be certain that your business address appears EXACTLY as it does on Google or the United States Postal Service. As it pertains to local search, here are a few more tips to follow:
- Add a business description with keywords and long-tail keywords.
- Add your logo, pictures, video, and other graphics that represent your business.
- Add your office hours.
- Make sure your profile is 100% optimized on Google My Business and that you’ve verified your listing.
Keep the Content Rolling Along
At the bare minimum, you should be writing four blogs per month (on your business website) that have a focus keyword or long-tail keyword. Each blog should be 500+ words and it’s best if you add social media share icons to give your readers an opportunity to share your content. Many of the top SEO firms and thought leaders sincerely believe there is a correlation between social signals or social sharing, and great website rankings.
Post your blogs on your Google Plus, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social pages. Including a compelling picture with each blog article will increase the click-through-rate and help to get more shares and likes. Take some time each month to plan out an editorial calendar with the topics that you want to write about. Be sure to incorporate your keywords (especially long-tail) into your posts and include internal links to your products and services pages that best represent your blog title or topic. Each hyperlink should be diverse and not strictly linked on the main keyword or long-tail keyword.
